Job Description
The Portfolio Management team is responsible for managing a fixed income securities portfolio which serves as a cornerstone of providing liquidity to the credit union system. Returns are generated, by the team, through formulating and executing investment strategies within the policy and risk limits.
The Credit & Financial Analyst is primarily responsible for conducting credit reviews, advanced financial and ESG analysis on existing and prospective counterparties in Central 1’s fixed income securities portfolio and other entities that Central 1 has credit risk exposure.
What you’ll do:
- Prepare high-quality quantitative and qualitative credit reviews, including ESG related analysis, on fixed income investment securities and counterparties.
- Analyze and examine investor presentations, financial results, reports, rating agency literature, and other public information sources (e.g., media) of counterparties.
- Provide relevant feedback, updates and insights from meetings with counterparties.
- Contribute your perspective on counterparties at internal meetings.
- Maintain, monitor and calculate key metrics for asset-backed security counterparties on a monthly basis.
- Ensure existing counterparties are reviewed, maintained and approved in accordance with Central 1’s policies and standards.
- Work closely with Managing Director, Treasury and Portfolio Manager, Assistant Portfolio Manager, members of Risk Management and other Lines of Business while discharging duties.
- Maintain documentation for internal and external auditors and corporate finance.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Who you are:
- Has previous experience of preparing written credit or financial analysis is essential.
- Minimum 3 years’ of working experience ideally in the credit union system, banking or finance industry with exposure to investments and risk management.
- Obtained a degree in commerce, business studies, or another quantitative field. Degrees in other subjects may be considered if the candidate can demonstrate competence in quantitative and/or business areas, either through formal education or through work experience.
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education, including pursuit of an accounting or CFA designation is an asset.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Clearly and logically expresses oneself, and is comfortable formulating, presenting, and defending an argument in a calm and reasoned way, while at the same time remaining open to differing views.
- Excellent writing skills and attention to details are essential. You need to be able to accurately synthesize and distil information from a number of written, verbal, and online sources. You must have demonstrably strong and accurate quantitative skills.
- Possess a strong desire and ability to learn and develop new skills is fundamental to the position. You must be motivated, deadline driven, efficient, and flexible. You must be able to work and think both independently and as part of a team.
- Sensitive to the business needs of Central 1 and be able to cooperate with other members of the Treasury and Portfolio Management team as well as other departments in a collaborative, curious and professional manner, while being willing to have courageous conversations.
