POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Quality Services Division
Quality Auditor
Based in Western Canada
APA is seeking a Quality Auditor in Western Canada. The Quality Auditor for APA will serve as an integral part of APA’s mission to work in partnership with members to develop and maintain markets through excellence. The Quality Auditor will visit client mills to verify compliance with defined technical criteria for certified manufacturers. Travel will be an essential part of this role.
Key Functions:
- Conduct product quality and system audits, including the inspection, sampling and test witnessing of manufactured engineered wood products for conformance to product standards and APA certification policies.
- Conduct quality system audits of mill production procedures and provide both written and oral reports of findings.
- Perform product verification, consistency, approval, and qualification tests. Select and prepare samples for lab testing.
- Provide or assist with training and on-going assessment of mill personnel.
- Maintain a professional relationship and communicate effectively with mill management, supervisors, and quality personnel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or manufacturing field or four years technical experience in wood products manufacturing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- ASQ CQA or ISO Lead Auditor certification preferred. ASQ CQA certification will be expected after employment.
- Functional knowledge of engineered wood products such as plywood, OSB, glulam, LVL and I-joist products preferred.
- Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record and be able to travel on a routine basis, including overnight, throughout North America.
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs. (22.7 kgs) on a repetitive basis.
- All staff hired after July 30, 2021, must provide acceptable evidence of COVID vaccination or acceptable evidence of initiation of the vaccination process prior to start date unless they are exempt by state or local mandate.

Organizational Relationship/Scope:
The Quality Auditor will report directly to the Western Region Division Manager and interact with the Quality Services Division team on a regular basis. He/she will interact with both internal and external contacts at all levels of the organization.
